PETS

Assignment: Write something under one thousand words or so (flexible on length), from a pet's perspective. No first person narrative. The goal is to work on Point Of View. The story may be in any genre.

I have begun to receive completed assignments and I will post them as I receive them through late tomorrow night. Please visit these postings, read what people have put together, and offer comment. Remember to coach critiques positively, offering helpful suggestions where appropriate. I'm not posting my own until tomorrow.

My favorite animal tale of all time is "Desert Dog" by Jim Kjelgaard. A young greyhound is abandoned in the desert and must learn to survive. The posted stories are good as well

Why is it so few people really comment on the stories? I've had at least 8 or so people click on the page, but only one comment. Is it because the story isn't good?

Feedback is appreciated.

Stewart

I just noticed that you said 1000 words on this post, but the original post said 2000 words.

I deliberately went long since I don't often get the chance. I hope mine isn't too long.

Very cute.... the most recent movie that I watched where its mostly about animals, is 8 Below... Very sad story.... but nice as well.

SQT, it could be that people don't like pets. If I had given an assignment like...give me a thousand words on bondage discipline...you would have seen heavy participation.

I usually glance over the stories on Wednesday, and then read them on Thursday...

You know, too, it's interesting watching the ebbs and flows of blogger. One week it explodes with communication, one week, without reason, its Dodge City at noon, and everyone is indoors.

Charles, I'm not familiar with that work.

Also, SQT, length isn't an issue this time.

Sam, I would love to see that movie, but for reasons I have outlined on one of my SIX THINGS ABOUT ME postings, there is no way I'd survive that film.

I wonder if you're having as many problems with this one as I had. The stories are great, and now I'm waiting for the one from you.

Hey, SQT, I left you feedback, but probably at the wrong site.

And Stewart, I took it upon myself to butt in and write one too. It's posted on my Weird Side blog, but apparently it's a little confusing. :)

Hi Stewart,

1000 words? The 2000 put me off - keep the assignments coming. If I can find time, I'd love to take part. Until then, it's fun just reading the entries...

Whenever I give out words, its always maximum word count unless otherwise specified. I find some smaller word counts more challenging.

I think you may be right. If I had written the piece a la Cujo, I think I would have gotten more responses. But I wanted to try something different, and my husband was beginning to think I couldn't write something that wasn't disturbing.
